Spider Solitaire
Ten columns, two decks, and eight runs to finish.
Spider Solitaire uses ten tableau columns. Build downward regardless of suit. Move a group only when it is a same-suit descending sequence. Complete eight King-to-Ace runs to win.
How to Play Spider Solitaire
Spider Solitaire is played with two decks and ten tableau columns. The cards are dealt so that the first four columns hold six cards and the remaining six columns hold five. Only the bottom card of each column is face-up at the start. The other 50 cards form the stock.
Build tableau columns downward, regardless of color. A 7 can go on an 8 even when the suits differ. The important restriction is for groups: you can only move a run of cards together when they are all the same suit and already in descending order. A single card can always move to a valid target.
Empty columns accept any single card or same-suit sequence. They are powerful because they let you reorganize a blocked column, but leaving one empty can stop you from dealing the next stock row until that column is filled again.
1, 2 or 4 Suits
The difficulty choice changes how many suits are in the two-deck pack. One-suit Spider uses eight complete sequences of a single suit, which makes same-suit runs much easier to create. Two-suit Spider uses four sequences of each of two suits. Four-suit Spider uses two sequences of each suit and is the toughest standard version.
Switching difficulty starts a fresh deal for that mode. It does not change the URL, so the page remains one canonical Spider Solitaire entry point.
Completed Runs and the Stock
A completed run is a full King-to-Ace sequence of one suit. When the thirteen cards sit together at the top of a column, Spider removes them automatically and scores 100 points. Removing a run can reveal a face-down card underneath, so finishing a run is often the fastest way to reopen a difficult column.
Click the stock or use the Deal button to add one face-up card to every column. The standard rule prevents a deal while any column is empty. Plan the last few cards of a column carefully: a deal can give you useful cards, but it can also bury a sequence you were building.
When to deal the stock
A stock row can rescue a stalled column, but it can also bury a sequence you were building. Before dealing, check that every column has at least one card and that no column is one move away from a completed run. If a deal would cover the card you need, make the tableau move first.
Spider Scoring
The HiSolitaire Spider score starts at 500. Each move and each stock deal costs one point. Every completed King-to-Ace run adds 100 points. Because moves are deducted continuously, a long game can push the score below zero; that is normal.
Spider Strategy
- Before dealing, check whether every column has at least one card.
- Build same-suit runs even when a mixed-suit move is also legal.
- Use empty columns to move long sequences, not just single cards.
- Complete a run when it opens a face-down card or creates a new empty column.
- Keep one column flexible for the next stock deal instead of committing every card.
Spider Solitaire FAQ
What is Spider Solitaire?
Spider Solitaire is a two-deck solitaire game played across ten tableau columns. You build descending sequences, move same-suit groups, and complete eight King-to-Ace runs to win.
What is the difference between 1, 2 and 4 suit Spider?
One-suit Spider uses eight copies of one suit and is the most approachable version. Two-suit Spider uses four copies of two suits. Four-suit Spider uses two copies of all four suits and is the hardest because same-suit sequences are harder to form.
How does the stock work?
The remaining 50 cards are dealt in five rows of ten. Each deal adds one face-up card to every tableau column. In the standard rule, you cannot deal while any tableau column is empty.
When is a sequence complete?
A complete run is thirteen cards of the same suit in King-to-Ace descending order. The game removes it automatically and adds 100 points. Eight completed runs win the game.
Can I move cards of different suits together?
You can build a descending tableau sequence with different suits, but you can only drag a group when every card in that group is the same suit and in uninterrupted descending order.
How is Spider scored?
Spider starts at 500 points, loses one point for each move or stock deal, and gains 100 points for each completed King-to-Ace run. The score can go below zero during a long game.
Does Spider save my progress?
Yes. The deal, difficulty, move history and elapsed time are saved in your browser for the mode you are playing. You can close the tab and continue on the same device.
