Solitaire Turn 1

Draw one card at a time for a calmer, easier Klondike game.

Free · progress saves on this device.

Use the stock pile to draw cards. Select a face-up card and then a target pile to move it. In the tableau, cards build down in alternating colors. Foundations build up from Ace to King. Keyboard shortcuts: U undo, H hint, N new game, R restart.

How to Play Solitaire Turn 1

Solitaire Turn 1 uses the standard Klondike layout: seven tableau columns, four foundations and a 24-card stock. The only difference is the draw. Click the stock and one card moves face-up to the waste pile. That top waste card can go to the tableau or to a foundation.

Build the tableau downward in alternating colors. A red 7 can go on a black 8, and a black 6 can go on a red 7. Only a King can start an empty column. The foundations build upward by suit from Ace to King.

When the stock is empty, click it again to recycle the waste. The default HiSolitaire rule allows unlimited passes, which makes Turn 1 a good place to learn the game and practise planning.

Turn 1 Rules and Tips

  • Draw one card at a time. Check the new waste card before making another move.
  • Reveal face-down tableau cards before moving cards that are already face-up.
  • Send Aces and 2s to the foundations early, but do not rush higher cards.
  • Keep an empty column available for a King when you can.
  • Use Undo to test a move without committing to a losing branch.
Beginner habit: After every draw, ask whether the new waste card can reveal a face-down card. That single question usually improves a Turn 1 game more than saving the stock for later.

Turn 1 vs Turn 3

Turn 1 is the gentler mode. Each card is visible as soon as it is drawn, so you have more information and more opportunities to use the waste pile. Turn 3 turns three cards at once and only the top waste card is playable, which makes the same deal noticeably harder.

Who Turn 1 is for

Turn 1 suits new players, players returning after a long break, and anyone who wants a calmer game. It is also the best mode for learning how the tableau and foundations interact before adding the pressure of a three-card draw.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Solitaire Turn 1?

Solitaire Turn 1 is Klondike with one card drawn from the stock at a time. Every stock card becomes available sooner, so the game is easier to plan than Turn 3.

Is Turn 1 easier than Turn 3?

Yes. Turn 1 reveals one card per draw and gives you more chances to use the stock. Turn 3 reveals three cards at once and is a tougher challenge.

How many passes through the stock can I make?

The HiSolitaire version uses unlimited passes by default. When the stock is empty, click it to recycle the waste pile and continue.

Can I move a card back from a foundation?

Yes. A top foundation card can be moved back to a valid tableau column. The standard score takes a small penalty for that move.

Does Turn 1 save my progress?

Yes. Your current deal, moves and elapsed time are saved in your browser, so you can close the tab and continue on the same device.

Read the Solitaire rules guide or the scoring guide for the details behind every move.
