Klondike is where most players start, but the Solitaire family runs deeper. Pick a variant below, or scroll down for rules, strategy, scoring and answers to common questions.
Klondike Solitaire is played with a standard 52-card deck. The goal is simple: move all 52 cards into the four foundation piles at the top right of the board, building each suit from Ace to King.

Solitaire looks like a game of luck, but careful choices make a real difference. A few habits separate a casual game from a winning one.
Aces are the only cards that can start a foundation pile. Moving them up early gives you a place to send more cards later. Leaving an Ace in the tableau only delays the rest of the game.
Every card you flip over adds options to your game. When two moves both seem reasonable, prioritize the one that uncovers a new card.
An empty tableau column can only be filled with a King, which makes it a powerful workspace. Try to clear a column early and use it to reorganize long sequences.
Different Solitaire variants use different scoring systems. The three most common are Standard, Vegas and Relaxed:
Points are awarded for moving cards to foundations, revealing face-down cards and moving cards from the stock to the waste.
You start with a negative score and earn it back by moving cards to the foundations. More pressure, less exploration.
No points are tracked. The goal is simply to finish the game, which keeps the focus on play.
